Who Are the Top News Influencers in the U.S. on Social Media?
About 21% of U.S. adults regularly get news from social media influencers, but there’s no clear consensus on who comes to mind first.
A Pew-Knight study found that half of respondents either named an individual or gave no response. Those named ranged from journalists to content creators. Some also named business and political figures like Elon Musk and Donald Trump, while others mentioned media outlets or platforms instead of individuals.
Here’s the list:
— Philip DeFranco (3%);
— Tucker Carlson, Ben Shapiro, Under the Desk News, Carlos Eduardo Espina, Doland Trump (2%);
— Dan Bongino, MrBeast, Joe Rogan, Tim Pool, Candace Owens, Dylan Page, HasanAbi, Brian Tyler Cohen, Elon Musk, Lisa Remillard, Steven Crowder, Kai Cenat (1%).
People who named a specific influencer were more likely to follow them (72% vs. 45%) and feel a personal connection (39% vs. 23%). This highlights the growing role of influencers in shaping news consumption.
